Grumpy Glenn’s Garlic
Grumpy Glenn's four delicious varieties are grown
here in Galena on the premises of our good friends
Paul, Lori and Kyle Murphy at Murphy’s Gardens. He
plants Certified Organic seeds that have proven to
do well here in the fertile soils of Jo Daviess County,
Illinois. Using organic growing methods he then
lovingly hand plants, hand weeds, hand picks and
hand cleans it. It is grown naturally with no
pesticides or chemicals. The resulting product is a
delightfully flavorful garlic that is wonderful in your
favorite recipe.

Scapes will be available in June. The garlic will be ready at the end of July/beginning of August.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q How long will your garlic stay fresh
and flavorful?
A Our garlic was harvested locally in July. To
maximize storage time and increase flavor we have
dried our garlic for several weeks after harvesting.
Unpeeled bulbs if kept in a cool dry place (not the
refrigerator!) will stay fresh for several months.
This compares to Supermarket garlic, which has
usually been imported from a foreign country. It
spoils so quickly because it was harvested and
chemically treated many months ago.
A Absolutely! To keep the health benefits We recommend crushing or finely chopping your garlic
first. Then freeze small quantities in plastic wrap and take out as needed. We use a mini food
processor for the chopping and ice cube trays for the mold and it works great! We have garlic for the
entire year! You can freeze unpeeled cloves also, but the beneficial alliinase is neutralized by the cold
and the polysulfides do not form.
Q What are the health benefits of garlic you referred to?
A There have been studies that indicate the following benefits:
- Powerful Antibiotic
- Powerful Antioxidant
- Boosts the Immune System
- Supports the Cardiovascular System
- Benefits the Digestive System
Q There are only 2 people in my household
and I don’t use that much garlic at one time.
Can I freeze your garlic so it will “keep”
longer?
